Dark water:
Stress after trauma
A very unusual book in this genre. I am going to
compile a more complete review of this book when time permits however I was keen
to introduce it to a wider audience so this will serve as a brief introduction.
Dark water was written by a victim for victims. The author has produced a
work which will resonate with many among its target audience.

Memory and Emotion: The Making of Lasting
Memories
The
Making of Lasting Memories by James L. McGaugh is an excellent book on memory,
and helps us further understand the durability of traumatic memories! Speaking
as a therapist who has worked in the trauma field for 20 years this book is an
essential addition to the professional library. It is also accessible to the
non-specialist audience. Although it does make for dry reading in some places
the information contained in the book is top class...

Interviewing Children About Sexual Abuse
"Interviewing Children About Sexual
Abuse (Controversies & Best Practice) ISBN: 0-19-531177-9 is a very useful title
for the trauma worker's professional library. I came across it in a bookshop
specialising in law books but it should be generally available in any bookshop.
Published by Oxford University Press and retailing at about £20 it is a
comprehensive overview of research in this very difficult area. It quite
usefully explodes some of the myths that have allowed miscarriages of justice
and false accusations of abuse in the past. It refers comprehensively to all of
the studies and authors on whose work it draws so is also a boon for anyone
involved in research in this area. The book is divided into 17 self-contained
chapters on various subjects, although not all of the material covered by this
book is directly of interest to psychological trauma support workers. Those
chapters that are, such as "Children's Memory and Suggestion", "Models for
Assessing Child Sexual Abuse", and "Children Who Do Not Want to Disclose" most
certainly make for a very informative read."
