Critical Incident Debriefing (CID)

Critical Incident Debriefing is generally offered shortly following involvement in a major (critical) incident.  The aim is to prevent the onset of post trauma symptoms.  The most well known method is a group CID model known as the Mitchell Model, developed in 1983.  Since then the CID field has grown and there are now numerous models available.  Some organisations developing their own bespoke models to suit their own organisational and operational requirements.

CID was never intended to be offered as a stand alone process and thought must be given to referral and ongoing support and the provision of information to those taking part.
