Gavin qualified as a counsellor in 2002. He carries a small caseload of private counselling work and also is employed as a training officer with Derby City Council.

In his own words:

" I qualified as a counsellor in 2002, passing the Human Givens Diploma with a distinction. I had studied a number of counselling approaches over a 20 year period. What attracted me about '[The Human Givens' approach is that it uses up to date knowledge that is research based. I have found that it is particularly effective.

I am interested in anxiety, depression, addictions and trauma but I enjoy working with the full range of issues that people bring to counselling. In my training role I run courses that look at issues such as 'Loss and Grief', 'Therapeutic Ways of Helping People' and 'Problem Solving'. I find that the training role and the counselling role are complementary.

I am also a qualified Social Worker and worked 'on the front line' for 17 years so I think I have a strong understanding of the full range of human difficulties.
